My practice examines the complex relationship of individuals to place employing a visual lens in the context of the ways we live today. I am drawn to the meditation of a particular time in place, the natural world, using images, both moving and still, in order to understand how images can historically represent place. I use materials used in the work, merged with the imagery, writings and sound, with particular interest in stone, trees, water, earth. My research draws on questions and influence from varied disparate ideas in cinema, architecture, environmental science, geology and archeology. Walking forms part of my response to the work, both in urban and rural settings. Critical thinking informs my work through both research and making, influenced by natural world writings of Robert Macfarlene and Marshall Sahlin’s ideas on human behaviour’s within culture and the environment.

Photography drives the work, combines analogue and digital techniques incorporating movement in the image through playful techniques. I’ve worked with video installation, video mapping, text, where medium relates to the process. I work in an improvised way through collaboration, devising approaches to complex site-specific response.

Sinead Curran is an Irish artist from rural County Waterford, based in Dublin. She holds a BA in Visual Arts Practice from the Institute of Art and Design Dun Laoghaire, she went on to complete an MA at IADT, graduating in 2010. Sinead has exhibited both in Ireland and internationally including solo exhibitions at the The Linenhall Arts Centre and The Darkroom in 2019, Rua Red Gallery (2015), and Illuminations Gallery NUI Maynooth (2013), with group participation at Tulca: A Headless City 2016, Con-glom-er-ate, Catalyst Arts, Catalyst Arts, Belfast (2013), 183rd Annual RHA Show, and Artists on Architecture, curated by Oonagh Young, Tullamore, Ireland. She has received funding from Create (Artist in the Community, Arts Council), Ealain na Gaeltachta and South Dublin County Council. Print work has been presented at the Dublin Book Art Fair, 2019.

Participation in residency programs include The Darkroom, Dublin, Ireland (2019), Cow House Studios, Wexford, Ireland (2018), Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, Canada (2017), Rua Red Tallaght, Dublin, Ireland (2014-2015), Fire Station Artists Studios Digital Media Residency, Dublin, Ireland (2013), and IAM, Berlin (2012).
