Home Is (2015)Duration: 13 minutes Tallaght, the focus for this project, is located in a unique city when it comes to housing; ideologically space is controlled and kept at low density with a huge demand for semi-detached housing and a garden. The project addresses the social impact that urban living can have on our lives. Anthropologist Mary Douglas argues that home is located, it is not necessarily fixed in space – rather, home starts by bringing space under control. As she points out, a home is not only a space but involves regular patterns of activity and structures in time. Urban living can bring with it intimidation, fear, community, neighbours, stereotypes and suburbia. |
