District 7 (2022)

District 7 is a meditative film exploring the mountain landscape – geologist Richard Griffith created the first detailed map of the Dublin mountains in 1812, an area that expands from the source of the Dodder river at the highest peak to the city suburbs. Mapping the river the film charts various personal movements by the filmmaker – The Dodder is known as the ‘flashy river’ as the film explores the differing scales of the impact that humanity’s presence has on the earth in the past, present and future. The narrated text was created from meditative observations taken from the filmmaker’s walks, text, audio recordings, combined with observations by Griffith in his report for the Bogs Commission between 1807-1814.
